Signing

We've been signing with Lily since we met her, and she's been watching Signing Time DVDs with Ruby since she came home.  She's very, very good at mimicking - I have to watch that I don't move my hands too much when I talk, or she'll associate my words with my actions.

When I comb her hair in the morning, I tell her she's pretty & I sign pretty - then I usually take her to the mirror so she can see her hair.  Then I do the same for Ru.

Today my mom & stepdad came to visit - and they brought their dog.  Well, the dog was of huge interest (and she was pretty suspicious of it at first, but not scared) - and after she pet the dog with Nana's help, Lily turned to me & signed, "Pretty."

That was the first time she had signed it spontaneously, so I wasn't sure if it was because she pet him and thought his fur was like hair?  But then - we went to speech with Ruby & we were looking at a wall hanging.  I was pointing out pictures & naming them, and I said, "Butterfly - pretty!"  And she signed, "pretty."

She's doing so well!
